Target audience questionaire
In order to get a better idea of our chosen target audience (White men aged 17 and over) we conducted an interview with a member of the demographic to see what they would like to see in a music video.
1. Are you a fan of our chosen genre Rock?
Yes, I am my favourite band is from the genre, Coldplay
2. Are you a fan of our chosen artist (Bryan Adams)?
Yes but only because of one song, "Summer of 69".
3. What is your favourite type of music video, performance or narrative?
I like a cross between the two because I like seeing the acting on screen but also the sense of a live performance you can get from a video.
4. What do you like to see in a rock music video?
I like the video to be eye catching, with bright colours and being able to keep my attention, without it being repetitive. I also like when thier are performance scenes to see the whole band not just the front men.
5. What don't you like to see in a rock music video?
When what you see in the video doesn't fit the lyrics of the song, if part of the story isn't relavent to the lyric it shouldn't be in the video because it really doesn't look good. Also I dont like it when in the narrative based scenes the editing is so fast you struggle to follow what's going on.
6. Finally what other media do you consume?
TV, radio, internet, films. My favourite is the internet.

Target audience decided
After having researched various websites we have decided that our primary target audience will be white men aged 17 and other, this is because the majority of performers I'm our video will be that age and I feel it''s important for the audience to be able to relate to the people they see on screen.
The research backs up this decision as after using Bauer Media as a link I found the website to Kerrang! which as a TV channel, radio station and corresponding magazine. All of which is aimed at a target audience of people aged 17 and above, with success as the magazine has a circulation of 43,033. This helps to prove that our chosen genre, rock, is still popular within this section of the market in the UK.
However the rock genre is also very popular with white men aged 25 and over so in order to appeal to a secondary target audience made up of this demographic we would also advertise on the radio station Planet Rock as the station is very popular with our chosen secondary target audience.

Target audience research
For our target audience research we have looked at Bauer Media and found a number of radio stations which play our genre of music such as PlanetRock, Kerrang! and Rock FM.
Kerrang! radio station markets itself as "a true alternative to pop music" to achieve this Kerrang has a more mainstream music policy to appeal to a wider audience. This is a contrast to Planet Rock as I feel they appeal to a more niche audience.
Rock FM reaches 276,000 people each week aiming at a target audience of people aged 15 and up as well as appealing to both men and woman. According to Rock Fm's website that 22% of the UK's population of people aged 15 and over listen to Rock FM.
Also reasearch on www.officialchart.com we found that rock is the Uk's second most popular music genre and until recently was the most popular. It also told us that the UK's most popular album is a rock album (Queen Greatest hits 1)
This website waas also helpful with finding the popularity of our chosen artist, Bryan Adams. As research revealed that Bryan Adams is 47th on the all time list of the 60 most popular artists on Official charts.com
Overall the station I feel that would be most likely to play the song were using and appeal to our target audience is Planet Rock. This is because after doing some research I found Planet Rock regularly plays our chosen artist, Bryan Adams. Also because of their use of apps more people from our primary target audience, white men aged 17 and up are more likely to hear our chosen song because they are more technologically aware than Planet Rock's primary target which I feel is white men aged 25 and over. The amount of exposure bryan adams gets on offical charts.com will also help market him to our primary target audience as younger people will spend more time online then older ones.

Our pitch
Here is the pitch to our music video for the song "Summer of 69"
This is the feedback we got after presenting the pitch:
Try to avoid the orginal video
One problem was our actor can't play the guitar, but having him play was planned to be a key point of one of the scenes. An idea to get around this is to have the chords of the guitar out of shot and only see the actor strumming the guitar, that way you still have the image were after and playing the guitar still looks realistic.
We were also advised to take inspiration from our chosen genre rather than our chosen artist
Another problem with one of our key ideas is that the video has a non linear narrative, jumping between the present and flashback. Our first idea for this was to find older actors that look like the actors used in the flashback scenes. However finding suitable actors may a problem so an alternative to this is to shoot the present day scene in slightly darker than the flashback scenes to show how life has moved on and perhaps become duller for the protagonist.
Target audience considerations
Our initial target audience for our music video is people aged 17 and over. The demographic would be white, male with class not being an issue. For psychographics they would probably have an interest in classic rock and wouldn't like the mainstream chart music. Music would also be one of their interests.
